What Will I Learn On This Course?

This course will give you a holistic view of oil spill response. It will incorporate the industry's good practice guidance to help improve your organisation's oil spill preparedness and response capability.

Leaving no stone unturned, this course covers advanced technical topics such as NEBA/SIMA, SCAT, and OWR while accredited at IMO Level 3 equivalent. The exercises and simulations you'll experience in this course are carefully developed to assist you when decision-making in a real spill scenario.

Furthermore, several case studies are built into relevant course modules to highlight lessons learned from past incidents. This interactive course also includes discussion-based activities and exercises to deepen and enrich the knowledge-learning process.

  • Appreciate the hazards to responders and safety aspects when responding to varying oil spills
  • Understand the importance of contingency planning in both preparedness and response
  • Discover the response strategies and techniques available whilst justifying these response options, including the management of waste generated
  • Delve into the art of surveillance, modelling and visualisation of oil spills
  • Learn the fundamentals of Shoreline Clean-up Assessment Technique (SCAT) and partake in a live (remote) SCAT exercise
  • Appreciate the important aspect of Oiled Wildlife Response (OWR)
  • Highlight the fundamentals of Incident Management System (IMS), scaling response efforts up and down, and termination of response
  • Acquire knowledge about the management of media during response operations
