About

About Oil Spill Response Limited

Oil Spill Response Limited (OSRL) is the largest international industry-funded cooperative which exists to respond to oil spills wherever in the world they may occur, by providing preparedness, response and intervention services. We are wholly owned by our members and our membership represents the majority of global oil production. We currently employ 275 people across 12 locations around the world.

Our shareholders comprise of oil and gas companies.

Welcome from the CEO

For nearly 40 years, OSRL has been on a journey to address the changing needs of our members and helping them ensure they have oil spill preparedness in place and are ready to respond to oil spills. Our mission and charter, established in 1995, continues to guide the way we operate today.

Since our inception in 1985, we have grown from a small industry resource with just 17 employees to a truly global resource, with a diverse group of professionals ready to respond to any situation with world-class resources anytime, anywhere. Our merger with East Asia Response Limited (EARL) in 2006 and Clean Caribbean and Americas (CCA) in 2013 has allowed us to expand our reach and better serve our members across the globe.

As the industry has evolved, we have continually adapted to meet the changing needs of our members. Following the Montara and Macondo well incidents, we partnered with the Subsea Well Response Project (SWRP) to establish a global Subsea Well Intervention Service (SWIS), which enhances our overall capabilities to respond to any oil spill scenario. We have also worked closely with the Joint Industry Project (JIP) to improve our response capabilities further.

In 2022, we launched the GOWRS Oiled Wildlife Assessment Service, a ready-to-deploy 4-person team delivered by a network of 10 leading wildlife response organisations. Achieving a live status for the GOWRS Service represents over a decade of hard work and dedication by many individuals and organisations, including OSRL, Sea Alarm and the GOWRS Partners. We are proud to have played our part in making this service available to our members.

As we embark on the next phase of our journey, we are committed to delivering excellence while transforming our organisation. We recognise the challenges and opportunities presented by the energy transition and are dedicated to serving our members' needs in the most effective way possible.

We are proud of our journey thus far and remain committed to addressing the evolving needs of our members. With our world-class resources and talented professionals, we stand ready to respond to any situation and continue to deliver value to our members.
