This course provides you with revalidation of your MCA Levels 3/3P - 5/5P certifications, covering the technical UK regulatory aspects of oil spill response.

Certification Revalidation

If your MCA 3/3P, 4/4P, or 5/5P certificate is nearing expiration, this course offers revalidation for an additional three years (36 months from the date of the refresher course).

Is This Course Right For Me?

This comprehensive refresher training course provides you with revalidation of MCA Level 3/3P, 4/4P and 5/5P certifications.

Refresher training must be completed within 3 months of the original certificate expiry date. Full recertification will be required if a refresher course is not taken within the stated timeframe.

This course will provide you with any changes in MCA, UK legislation or IMO conventions and protocols. It will also update you on any new developments in spill response technology and allow you the opportunity to participate in a response exercise.

This course is designed for those working in UK Ports and Harbours, such as:

  • Company Supervisors, Jetty Personnel, and Operational staff in the role of First Responders.
  • Supervisors, Managers, Harbour Masters/Assistants in the Incident Management Team.
  • Harbour Masters, Chief Executives, Senior Government Officers, and Port Captains as executive decision-makers.
What Will I Learn On This Course?

This training course comprises a one-day exercise starting from the initial spill notification through to the production of an Incident Action Plan (IAP), for both offshore and shoreline response.

Refreshing your knowledge of UK-specific reporting requirements, this course will refresh your understanding of the role of the Secretary of State's Representative (SOSREP) for Maritime Salvage and Intervention, the Maritime Coastguard Agency (MCA) and how they interface with your company and other agencies. 

You will gain knowledge and understanding in the following areas:

  • Notifications and reporting requirements
  • SOSREP and MCA in the UK Response Structure
  • Causes and fates of oil
  • Oil quantification and modelling and tracking of oil
  • Different response techniques
