The purpose of this position is to meet the challenge of industry demand for smarter, technologically advanced solutions in the integrated fields of surveillance modelling and visualisation.
Three primary areas of focus are:
- To innovate and develop to improve our oil spill resources on a global basis.
- To share oil spill knowledge internally and externally.
- To provide assurance so that our capability remains robust and credible.
Meet the Team
James joined OSRL as a Response Specialist with previous experience in mechanical engineering maintenance in the Downstream sector. James spent several years in the response department, James has attended oil spills within the UKCS, Middle East, and West Africa, and has conducted training, exercises, and other OSR work across the globe.
In 2015 James went on a yearlong secondment to a client in the Middle East. Following his secondment James was responsible for the operational and technical side of the UKCS surveillance project and service, in addition to leading the training of aerial surveillance personnel in the EMEA region and writing new and updating exiting procedures for OSRL’s aerial surveillance services and operations personnel. James has now joined the technical department as the Development and Assurance Advisor for surveillance, modelling, and Visualisation.
Surveillance, Modelling and Visualisation (SMV) Strategy
Continue the implementation of the SMV strategy into our response and preparedness services. Develop our internal expertise, and collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to ensure OSRL is staying abreast on the latest technologies and processes.
Operationalising Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAV’s) for Spill Response
Developed a framework of UAV providers that can be engaged with to provide a UAV capability locally, regionally, and globally for oil spill response.
Identifying the applications of UAV’s for spill response and preparedness through exercising and trialling UAV’s.
Operationalising a UAV spill response capability through the writing of procedures, defining deliverables, outputs, and operational parameters.
Engagement with our members and other stakeholders to develop UAV capabilities for oil spill response and preparedness.
Surveillance Kite Package
Operationalised a surveillance kite package that can be deployed to provide offshore tactical oil spill response support for containment and recovery operations. The surveillance kite package, incorporates several kites to allow for different wind speeds, a camera and gimbal for image stabilisation, and a transmitter for sending live video back down to the vessel crew.
Reviewing OSRL’s management of response data.
