Delivered in Florida, USA, by our experienced Americas team through engaging tabletop and practical exercises, this course will equip you with the skills and knowledge to become a key member of an oil spill response team, one with practical oil spill equipment knowledge and experience.

  • Importance of Health & Safety to Response personnel during an incident

  • Overview of oil spill tiered response, OSRL response protocol, including causes, fates and effects of oil
  • Environmental and economic impacts
  • Contingency planning and Environmental Sensitivity Index (ESI) mapping
  • Site safety, hazards to responders and HAZWOPER regulations
  • Overview of spill management and the Incident Command System (ICS)
  • Aerial observation of oil on water
  • Dispersant use and decision-making
  • Containment and recovery, including in-situ burning
  • Shoreline clean-up and assessment (beach and mangrove)
  • Temporary storage devices, pumps, small boat operation
  • Media interactions and ongoing relations
  • Warehouse tour and exercises: Intra-coastal waterway - river and bay, shoreline.
