OPEP Certification
The Department for Energy Security and Net Zero (DESNEZ), along with the UK Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA), developed the UK training standards in accordance with the requirements of the International Maritime Organization’s (IMO) International Convention on Oil Pollution Preparedness, Response and Co-operation (OPRC). DESNEZ standards are adapted from the IMO Model Training Courses and tailored to meet the UK's needs.
As DESNEZ is responsible for the accreditation of oil spill response training for the UK Offshore Oil Industry, the standards set are specific to operations in the UK Continental Shelf (UKCS) region. As a Nautical Institute (NI) accredited training centre, OSRL is accredited to deliver the full range of UK oil spill response training courses on behalf of DESNEZ, primarily delivered in Aberdeen and Southampton.
OPEP Levels of training include:
- OPEP Level 1 - UKCS On-Scene Commander
- OPEP Level 2 - UKCS Corporate Manager
- OPEP Level 3 - UKCS Onshore Emergency Responder
- OPEP Level 4 - UKCS Onshore Emergency Responder with Practical Deployments (recommended for UK delegates who require an IMO 2 equivalent certification
- OPEP Level 3-4 Upgrade - Offered as part of our IMO Level 2 equivalent On-Scene Commander Clearance Course (join the practical equipment deployment exercise days).
