The world of psychology and decision-making bid farewell to a luminary in late March as Daniel Kahneman, the Nobel laureate who revolutionised our understanding of human cognition, passed away. Among his many contributions, Kahneman's explanation of System 1 and System 2 thinking is a cornerstone of modern psychology.

World Day for Safety and Health is observed every year on 28 April and aims to raise awareness about the prevention of occupational accidents and ill health globally.

National Apprenticeship Week is underway, and Joe Hartley, an Engineering Apprentice at OSRL, reflects on a rewarding first year. From team camaraderie to offshore deployments, he shares insights into his apprenticeship with the Equipment Hire Services team.

Today is International Education Day, and to mark the occasion, we reached out to Jake Smallbone, a third-year PhD student at the University of Essex with an interest in the microbial ecology of marine environments. Jake is currently focusing on hydrocarbon-degrading bacteria and how marine oil spills and the use of remediation strategies such as chemical dispersant use impact them.

We have been proud to support Jake, providing funding and expertise to enhance his research and connect with industry partners.

COP28 underscores sustainable development, emphasizing low-carbon practices. OSRL pioneers responsible decommissioning in the oil and gas industry, aligning with COP28 goals. Their proactive measures, including strategic pre-deployment, showcase industry collaboration for a greener, resilient future.

Our Executive Team recently attended a Mock Trial Training session, which included a brief on the regulatory framework, the relevant Acts (UK-HSAW 1974), and several recent case studies.
