Enhance your understanding of oil spill response requirements within the UKCS.

This BEIS (Energy and Industrial Strategy) accredited OPEP training course is the level of training required for all Environmental Advisors within an Emergency Response Room during an oil spill incident

Is this course for me?

If you will be undertaking the role of an Environmental Advisor during an emergency oil spill response, this course is essential and will enhance your understanding of oil spill response requirements within the UKCS

What will I learn?

Over the three days of the OPEP Level 3 training course, through interactive participation, you will receive a comprehensive overview of oil spill response from preparedness activities to applicable spill response techniques. This course outlines the statutory reporting requirements and which relevant UK government agencies you may require to have ongoing communications with.

The course also ensures you understand the role of the Secretary of State’s Representative (SOSREP) and the functions of the Operations Control Unit (OCU), and how they could potentially interface with your company and other relevant government agencies.

This course will give you knowledge and understanding in the following areas:

  • Assessing the situation and activating the Oil Pollution Emergency Plan (OPEP);

"Very knowledgeable and engaged"

"The facilitators demonstrated significant experience in oil spill response and delivered the material in a manner that was easily understood and memorable. By delivering the course to a smaller group, the facilitators provided a high degree of guidance and support to ensure that all attendees understood each key learning. The format also enabled the session to be relatively informal and encouraged the group to work together as a team to complete tasks with the support from the facilitators.”
