Are you a corporate decision maker in your company and do you know your SOSREP and OCU’s from your OPEP’s? If not, then this course will give you the awareness that you need in that role for priority setting, reporting requirements and oil spill response activities.


Is this course for me?

This course is essential for corporate decision makers working for a company operating in UKCS waters, providing you with the required BEIS training. It is a minimum requirement for any person who performs the role Duty Managers and Emergency Room Managers or Incident Commanders who are not Duty Managers or Emergency Room Managers

  • All Duty Managers and Emergency Room Managers
  • Incident Commanders during a UKCS incident who are not Duty Managers or Emergency Room Managers
  • Corporate decision-makers dealing with priority setting and significant external liaison during an oil spill incident
  • Any personnel involved in the decision-making processes in a UKCS response or in liaison with the relevant authorities


What will I learn?

As an essential course for operating in the UKCS, you will learn about the specific legislation and roles of relevant government agencies in addition to the required Oil Spill Emergency Plans and specific response strategies.

This course will give you the knowledge and understanding in the following areas:

  • Awareness of oil spill response issues specific to the UKCS, including statutory requirements and response strategies.
  • Requirements placed upon an operator
  • Understand the role of, and interaction with, relevant government agencies during an oil spill including the Secretary of State’s Representative (SOSREP)
  • Oil Spill Emergency Plans (OPEP), oil behaviour in the environment, response strategies and spill termination

  • Identification of the reasons for activation of the response
