Course details

If you will be undertaking the role of an Environmental Advisor within an Emergency Response Room during an oil spill incident and have a valid OPEP Level 3 or OPEP Level 4 certificate that is soon due for renewal, then this course will refresh your knowledge of the spill response requirements within the UKCS.

Using a realistic scenario covering all aspects of a spill response, delegates apply their knowledge and refresh their ability to develop a spill response strategy and communicate with relevant government agencies.

To allow for a positive learning experience of all delegates, our Remote UKCS Responder Refresher training course is designed to be delivered over two consecutive days, with a 4.5-hour session each day.

Is this course for me?

This remote training course provides you with revalidation of the OPEP Level 3 and OPEP Level 4 certification by attending this comprehensive refresher for Onshore Emergency Responders in accordance with UK training requirements.

Refresher training must be completed within 3 months of the original certificate expiry date (valid for 36 months). Failure to do so will require full re-certification by completing the entire training course.

What will I learn?

This remote training course is comprised of a one-day exercise (divided over two consecutive days) starting from the initial spill notification through to the production of a full spill response strategy which includes both offshore and shoreline spill response elements.

This course ensures you gain a refresher on the role of the Secretary of State’s Representative (SOSREP) and the functions of the Operations Control Unit (OCU) and how they could potentially interface with your company and other relevant government agencies.

This course will refresh your knowledge and understanding in the following areas:

  • Notifications and spill reporting requirements;
  • Role of the SOSREP and OCU in the UK response structure;
  • Causes and fates of marine oil spills;
  • Quantification of an oil spill;
