Enhance your understanding of oil spill response requirements within the UKCS.

This BEIS (Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy) accredited training course is the level of training required for all response personnel working in the UKCS undertaking the role of onshore emergency responder during an oil spill incident.

If you are a Duty Onshore Responder or Advisor in the Emergency Room responsible for dealing with a response to offshore oil spills, this course is essential and will enhance your understanding of oil spill response requirements within the UKCS.

  • Offshore Oil Spill Advisors
  • Environmental Advisors
  • Onshore Emergency Responders

If you have already taken the OPEP Level 3 (previously DECC Level 3) course and are required to be qualified to OPEP Level 4 (previously DECC Level 4) by your organisation, if you need to have international recognition or are likely to be involved as an onshore On-Scene Commander or Responder to IMO Level 2 standard, then you will need to undertake a further 8 hours of practical training.

This can easily be carried out by taking part in two practical exercises on either the OPEP Level 4 Response and Control course or our flagship Oil Spill Clearance - On-Scene Commander course (IMO Level 2) and will involve just two days on the course. Contact us for more details.

Over the three days through interactive participation you will have a comprehensive overview of oil spill incidents from preparedness to response, including statutory notifications, communications with BEIS (Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy), MCA (Maritime & Coastguard Agency) and the SOSREP (Secretary of State's Representative), which will enable you to formulate an effective response strategy.

"The course design is very clear and methodical. Very easy to follow and structure flowed well. Great format. Again, allowing trained responders to deliver the training brings the course content to life and is great for discussion.  Note - minimal paper/online delegate instructions are a great improvement. Excellent."

"Thanks very much for the fun and informative DECC Level 3 course over the past few days. From the first morning the course was really enjoyable. Gillian and Lucy made us feel very welcome and are both great trainers.  The enthusiasm of the presenters was evident, and they made sure we were participating throughout.  It is clear that a lot of work has been put into the course material to make it interactive, engaging, and useful.

Possibly the most enjoyable course I’ve attended, I would definitely recommend OSRL training. Well done! "
