Course details

This training will cover the tactical elements of oil spill response through a vessel-based oil spill response equipment deployment.

It reinforces theory training by completing a practical deployment of response equipment. If completed after a remote theory course, it completes the necessary requirements for accredited certificates as below. 

If taken following the Remote on Scene Commander Level 2 course to you will be awarded an accredited IMO Level 2 certificate. 

If taken following the Remote MCA Level 4 course you will be awarded an accredited MCA level 4 certificate.  

The training will build on oil spill theory training to increase knowledge, competence and team building. It is based on a given oil spill scenario. 

 

Is this course for me?  

To attend this course, you must have completed the Remote On-Scene Commanders course. If you are looking to upgrade an OPEP 3 to OPEP 4 then please see the double exercise package. If you are travelling to Southampton, UK and would like to complete your accredited certificate with a shoreline rather than offshore exercise, then please see the shoreline practical day description.  

 

What will I learn?  

This course will give you the knowledge and understanding in the following areas: 

  • A review of offshore tactical options and knowledge applied to a given scenario. 
  • Vessel safety and effective on-deck equipment set-up.  
  • Deployment principles and practicalities.  
  • Recovery equipment and site waste management.  
  • Equipment recovery and offshore operational termination.  

 

Course programme: 

  • Introductions.
  • Introduction to the exercise scenario and tactical options.  
  • Exercise preparation and risk assessment.  
  • Vessel safety and set-up.  
  • Deployment of response equipment.  
  • Waste considerations.  
  • Equipment recovery and exercise termination
  • Exercise debrief.  

 

Note: depending on the location of the deployment, the duration of the training will be 0.5-1 day
