If you work for a UK Port and Harbour this course will refresh the knowledge you acquired on your previous MCA course.

Using a realistic scenario covering all aspects of a response, delegates apply their knowledge and increase their confidence in mounting a response strategy and when communicating with Government agencies.

To allow for a positive learning experience of all delegates, our Remote MCA Refresher course is designed to be delivered over two days, with 4.5-hour sessions each day. 

Preferred IT Platform: The Zoom training software is preferred. However, if this is an issue then other software options can be discussed.

 

Is this course for me?

This course provides you with revalidation of MCA Level 3/3P, MCA 4/4P and MCA Level 5/5P certification by attending this comprehensive refresher current certificate holders are update with any changes in MCA, UK legislation or IMO conventions and protocols. It should also be designed to update personnel on any new developments in spill response technology and will also allow participation in a response exercise in order to refresh and test the participants’ ability

This refresher course must be taken within 36 months of the original course date and you must be able to provide a valid certificate. If you miss this deadline you will need to retake the full course at the appropriate level.

This course is designed for:

  • Company Supervisors, Jetty Personnel, Operational staff in the role of First Responders.
  • Supervisors, Managers, Harbour Masters/Assistants in the Incident Management Team.
  • Harbour Masters, Chief Executives, Senior Government Officers, Port Captains as executive decision makers. 

 

What will I learn?

This course comprises of a one-day exercise (conducted over 2 days x 4.5-hour sessions) starting from the initial spill notification through to the production of an Incident Action Plan (IAP), for both offshore and shoreline response. This course ensures you gain an understanding of the role of the Secretary of States Representative (SOSREP) for Maritime Salvage and Intervention and the Maritime Coastguard Agency and how they interface with your Company and other agencies. 

This course will give you the knowledge and understanding in the following areas:

  • Notifications and reporting requirements
  • SOSREP and MCA in the UK Response Structure
  • Causes and fates of oil
  • Quantification of oil
  • Modelling and tracking of oil
  • Different response techniques
  • Media
  • Waste management
  • Spill termination and demobilisation of resources
