We take a look back at our dispersant workshop from June this year.

OSRL participated in a two-day dispersants workshop at Ohmsett, the National Oil Spill Response Research & Renewable Energy test facility, in New Jersey, USA. The aim of the workshop was to discuss the science of dispersant use, whilst allowing delegates to observe and understand dispersant effectiveness tests, which were conducted in the Ohmsett wave tank. 

The delegates of the workshop included over 40 individuals from across academia, government and industry backgrounds, and according to an OSRL responder who attended the workshop, it was a big success:

"While we (OSRL) have always been focused on the operational aspect of our mission, and advancing oil spill response capabilities, it is also important for us to stay up to date on the recent development in the research field by participating in events like this – facilitating the sharing and exchange of information and, more importantly, enhancing the interaction between operational and scientific aspects of oil spill response discipline. It is really exciting to know that there are so many scientists working on different areas of study, and all these efforts will undoubtedly help to improve the effectiveness of oil spill preparedness and response."
