In 2016, a member of OSRL was choosing a relief well location as part of a gas exploration well Safety Case. For the case scenario, they wanted to know whether the chosen relief well drill site would be safe. A worst case gas release scenario was modelled by OSRL to asisst in the decision making process for the Member. Find out more through the case study.

The MV Fedra was a Liberian-registered bulk-carrier cargo ship. It ran aground and smashed against Europa Point, the southernmost tip of Gibraltar, on the 10th October 2008, following severe gale force winds measuring 12 on the Beaufort scale.

Spill Journal: Montara, West Atlas

The Montara incident was an oil and gas leak, and subsequent slick that took place in the Montara oil field in the Timor Sea, off the northern coast of Western Australia on 21st August 2009.


The slick was released following a blowout from the Montara wellhead platform and continued leaking in total for 74 days. Read about OSRL's involvment in the next entry of our Spill Journal.
