OSRL raises £4,170 for charities from sale of restored tractor project

jueves, 22 de octubre de 2015

A1969 Nuffield 4/65 tractor was restored to its former glory by our hard working apprentices and sold at the largest agricultural machinery auction in Hereford, UK on 14 August 2015.

The restoration works on the used tractor was part of our apprentices' hands-on training and a tool to illustrate all around understanding of mechanical principles. This knowledge is transferable to many equipment used by OSRL.

From engine rebuilds to electrical wiring, our apprentices displayed finesse and tenacity in each step by undertaking the works themselves during the two years period. The final finishing touches on the paint work and addition of new set of tyres were also added to complete the project.

Brightwells Auctioners & Valuers kindly waived their commission fees to assist in the sale. The proceeds of the sale were distributed to:

1. RNLI - a 24-hour lifeboat search and rescue service to help save lives at sea

2. Jakes Mission - to provide equipment and therapy, to help a little boy with Cerebral Palsy and severe visual impairment to get the most out of life.

3. Solent Dolphin - a charity which operates a boat, for the sole purpose of taking people with disabilities out for free trips to sea on Southampton waters.

Did you know? OSRL developed the apprenticeship scheme with Brockenhurst College in 2012 for mechanical engineering training.

Our first batch of three apprentices graduated from the program in summer of 2015. Two of our apprentices are continuing their careers with OSRL – in the role of Mechanical Technician and Advanced Apprentice pursuing a Higher National Certificate (HNC). The third apprentice is currently a Mechanical Fitter with a facilities company in Southampton.
