Plenary Session: Achieving genuine competency to manage incidents
Jointly presented by Equinor and OSRL
We know that in a major oil spill, no company has the resources or expertise to manage alone. Key roles need a higher level of competency in emergency response and knowledge of the type of incident being managed.
Equinor and OSRL have partnered to tackle the question of how to train and verify this higher level of competency for those who need it.
In this plenary session, Equinor and OSRL will jointly present the roadmap for this project and how we see it creating benefits for the industry in joint training, exercising, knowledge transfer and mutual aid in response.
Workshop 1: What makes a good exercise? Sharing lessons learned
This session will explore a fundamental preparedness tool, 'the exercise'. Observations and insights will be offered, based on good practice guidance and decades of hands-on experience. Participants can expect to take away a greater awareness of some critical exercise planning considerations and potential pitfalls in addition to some handy tools so that their future exercises, and hence improving preparedness.
Workshop 2: Overcoming Barriers: Challenges to the Dispersant Delivery Chain.
Dispersants have been the industry's most effective Tier 3 response tool for over thirty years. Used appropriately and underpinned by NEBA/SIMA assessment, dispersant offers the greatest encounter/treatment rate with a large oil spill of any established response technique. And yet this technique may be constrained or ruled out in the future. In this workshop, we will explore the barriers that could negate dispersant use in the next big spill and establish what actions can be taken to mitigate these emergent risks.
Workshop 3: Digital Responding - How does oil spill response evolve in an ever more digital world
This workshop explores the essential adoption of new data, technology and most importantly, the skills of people that lead, manage, and use it, in order to meet increasing stakeholder expectations. We need to be agile and adjust to the changing business environment and show increased efficiency and effectiveness whilst managing costs. As we continue to respond to more complex incidents, we look at how we can optimise efficiencies and effectiveness through adapting and evolving with technology to deliver for our stakeholders.

In addition to our forum, we are also offering two free training sessions on Tuesday the 6th of December. Limited spaces available.
