Interspill 2009 - 12th to 14th May

Oil Spill Response had a very successful and enjoyable week at the recent Interspill conference and exhibition in Marseille. The city was very welcoming and we enjoyed some uniquely Mediterranean hospitality! We had a prominent stand in the centre of the exhibition and we were delighted to meet so many of our members, associates, customers and friends at this annual gathering of the oil spill response community.

Oil Spill Response facilitated one of the pre-cursory workshops, focused on the operational decision-making process for the use of dispersants.  A panel of internationally renowned experts delivered presentations on the latest application technology and science to stimulate the subsequent workshop discussions.

Opportunities abounded for our staff to
interact with conference visitors.

The dual-track conference enabled topical presentations and discussions on the traditional themes of oil spill response and also the IMO-supported R&D Forum relating to response to Hazardous and Noxious Substances (HNS).  Through the conference, authors and presenters from
Oil Spill Response
delivered seven new technical papers, adding to the growing library of Interspill conference proceedings.

Oil Spill Response staffs such as Rob Holland, Andy Nicoll, Jean Teo and Nick Hazlett-Beard (from left to right) were on hand to address technical enquiries and engage our industry counterparts.

Many of the contacts we made at the exhibition had specific requests regarding our range of spill preparedness services including training, consultancy services together with personnel and equipment hire.  We will be following up all of these requests on an individual basis over the coming days and weeks.

Preliminary planning has already begun for the next in the triennial series of oil spill conferences and we can anticipate a similarly warm welcome in Melbourne, Australia, for Spillcon 2010.
