December 2009
EAS Congress - 26th to 27th November 2009 The EAS Congress took place in the Philippines on 23rd – 27th November. Together with the IMO and IPIECA, Oil Spill Response successfully convened a workshop entitled “Government/Industry Partnerships for Effective and Consistent Preparedness and Response on Marine Pollution in East Asia.” This was prepared in conjunction with the International Conference’s theme of “Natural and Manmade Hazard Prevention and Management.”
The workshop bought together stakeholders representing international organisations, regional arrangements, national agencies, and provincial governments, NOCs, IOCs and OSROs. The workshop outcomes produced a set of recommendations that reiterated the importance of working together to achieve better oil spill preparedness and response, and will chart the way forward in boosting response integration in the region. The recommendations were submitted to the Ministerial Forum for necessary actions to be undertaken so as to strengthen coastal and ocean governance in the region.
