Triennial Conference Series
The three internationally dominant, established oil spill conferences have now aligned their scheduling on recurring, rotational basis to provide a single point of focus for the international oil spill community in any given year.
OSRL continues to support this programme and often provides sponsorship to the respective conferences, each of which bring together a wide range of stakeholders (including oil companies, governmental bodies, responders, technology suppliers and equipment manufacturers) to harness good practice and catch up on all major developments in the field through shared information and experiences.
Whilst each of the conferences organised within the Triennial Conference Series has an international remit and draw, each one also has it own distinctive regional focus:
- International Oil Spill Conference (IOSC), covers the Americas
- Interspill, which takes place in Europe, and
- Spillcon, covers the Asia-Pacific region, normally hosted in Australia
The purpose of these conferences is to promote an international exchange of information and ideas dealing with spill prevention, preparedness, response, and restoration activities. The conferences also serve as a platform to share good practices as they relate to the management of marine and inland oil spills.
The next conference in the triennial conference series is Spillcon in Cairns, Australia in 2013.
Spillcon 2013
Organised and hosted by Australia’s key government and industry agencies responsible for Australia’s marine environmental protection arrangements, the Australian Maritime Safety Authority and the Australian Institute of Petroleum, Spillcon 2013 will be held at the Cairns Convention Centre in Queensland, Australia, on 8-12 April 2013.
Keeping with its theme - Global, Regional, Local - Spillcon 2013 will bring together local, regional and global environmental and shipping representatives across industry, government and non-government organisations to provide an avenue to discuss issues including cause and prevention, preparedness, response management and environmental issues.
