The Mediterranean Oil Industry Group (MOIG) represents a wide range of public and private entities within the culturally and politically diverse littoral states of this region. MOIG seeks to bring these interests together under a regional framework consistent with the principles and general model of the Global Initiative.
MOIG serves as a regional oil industry forum on oil spill prevention, preparedness and response and to ensure industry coordination in the event of an oil spill in the Mediterranean Sea. MOIG is made up of a network of industry experts on oil spill response from the international oil companies (including members IPIECA and OSRL, in particular BG, BP, ENi, ExxonMobil, Shell, Repsol and Total) as well as a range of service companies and equipment manufacturers with interests in the region. OSRL supports the activities of MOIG as a technical partner alongside the International Tanker Owner’s Pollution Federation (ITOPF) and the Regional Marine Pollution Emergency Response Centre for the Mediterranean Sea (REMPEC).
MOIG’s mission is to promote continual improvement of oil spill response capabilities throughout the region by mutual cooperation. This is achieved by promoting effective cooperation on oil spill matters within and between industry, governments, concerned communities and other relevant stakeholders in the Mediterranean region and facilitating the regional exchange of information, resources, and expertise on oil spill prevention, preparedness and response.
