For the first time on this scale, the world’s leading oil spill response organisation and nine major oil and gas companies are working together to enhance international subsea well incident intervention capabilities. The integrated intervention system includes well capping and dispersant equipment that can be deployed internationally in the event of a subsea well control incident.
OSRL will store and maintain the equipment ready for transportation. In the event of an incident, OSRL will transport the required equipment from the storage location to a nearby airport/ port for onward transportation to the incident site by the well operator.
The system builds on existing industry experience and has been designed following research into potential incident scenarios and geographic variations in weather, ocean and oil conditions.
