OSRL recently held its Annual General Meeting in Singapore on June 13 - 14, in conjunction with a Members’ Forum which saw the participation of over 100 invited guests and OSRL staff.
A wide range of activities was coordinated over three days to give Members sufficient awareness of developments in OSRL and the wider industry, and concluded with a tour of the Singapore base facilities and equipment.
Members’ Forum, 13th June
The Members’ Forum covered presentations that gave insight into OSRL’s strategic development as well as the recent spill incidents we attended to. Midway through the session, participants were grouped and rotated through a round-robin of six Technical Session booths helmed by OSRL staff and industry partners including Sea Alarm Foundation and the Subsea Well Response Project.
The booth presentations covered the following current and topical issues which provided the basis for much discussion and sharing of viewpoints among the audience:
The Forum was summed up by a panel session featuring speakers from AMOSC, ExxonMobil, OSRL, Shell and SWRP who took a variety of questions from the floor.
Attendees welcomed the diversity and relevance of topics, expressing interest in following up on current topics such as subsea well response and recent spill case studies. For Members attending the AGM on the following day, the Forum content provided a deeper understanding of OSRL’s activities with which to address the Company’s performance and to assess proposals for its strategic direction. Most also appreciated the event as an ideal platform for meeting industry peers and sharing perspectives on oil spill issues.
OSRL Board Director Jon Lay said of the day’s events, “I thought the Members’ Day was outstanding, I have had a lot of positive feedback about the programme. The six Technical sessions and the way that was organised were a particular highlight, but it was a particular highlight within a very strong day.”
OSRL Long-Service Awards Presentation, 14th June
The AGM commenced on 14th June, addressing strategic corporate governance and finance issues, and also saw the presenting of Long Service Awards to three OSRL staff for commendable work. They are Operations Director Dave Salt (30 years), Operations Manager Ho Yew Weng (10 years) and Communications Manager Sharon Koh (10 years).
Addressing over 80 Shareholders, Members and colleagues in the audience during his award acceptance speech, Dave Salt commented, “The industry’s punctuated by events, and events cause events, I think this is one of the watershed moments with the well capping and containment. At last there is recognition of the impact of oil spills on industry in a big way. It’s going to be a very interesting time to come over the next five to 10 years, and it will be a great opportunity for OSRL.”
Base Tour, 15th June
Visitors were treated to a two-hour walk-around that got them close-up views of OSRL’s specialised response equipment. The tour followed a scenario of an offshore incident, and showcased a variety of equipment and technology used for multiple response strategies. These included:
